Often I suggest two activities for summer time to my tai chi students — walk with bare feet in the grass and do tai chi outside, close to a tree, if possible. Each provides a special feeling and connection with nature.
Now as summer is coming to a close, I’m very eager to hear what kinds of fun, learning and perhaps new experiences students have had over the last couple months. We took a summer break for my Chicago classes, so I am just now connecting and hearing summer stories.
I was very moved by what John S. told me he experienced, so much that I asked him if I could share it with you. So, with his permission:
“Most of my tai chi this summer has been on beaches standing in front of Lake Michigan or in Chautauqua, New York. In France I did tai chi on Utah Beach, where the D-Day invasion happened in 1944. It was very moving to feel the calm and tranquility of tai chi in a place that once saw so much devastation, but is now again a place of peace and calm. In all the places I could hear the waves moving which felt so good accompanying the motions of tai chi. Thank you so much for bringing this into my life. It is such a gift.”
Such awareness and enjoying the moment for John, with his tai chi. Such a gift!
