Some days it’s hard to focus. It’s not just that uncertainty abounds, fear abounds in our midst. Fear that we might become very ill with COVID19 or maybe worse, we might unknowingly be a carrier and spread it to others. Some of us fear job loss, that is, if we still have one. Day care not available. Too much time with too little to do. Too much alone time. Negative news.
This time we’re in is unprecedented regardless where we are. We have an invisible force loose in the world that causes fear, illness and death. So, how do we cope? We need to be intentional and carve out time to move – walk, bicycle, take an online tai chi or yoga class, watch Alvin Ailey dancers or listen to Yo-Yo Ma play his cello online. It’s a time in which it’s easy to get through the day and think, where did it go, and it’s all pretty much a blur.
What helps me immensely is to focus on nature, pay attention to the natural rhythms of the day, of the season. Nature continues its rhythms and we can pay attention when our rhythms are thrown off. Take some time today to see nature at work.
