Arlene demonstrates the second move of the Yang style short form, developed by Cheng Man-ch’ing. This move follows “Preparation” and is called “Beginning.” Joints are relaxed and open from the “Preparation” move, and the body is ready to embrace change.
The arms come straight up in front of the body with relaxed wrists. When arms are at chest level, fingers tips gently extend forward. Then arms come down, elbows leading.
This move sends energy up throughout the body and brings it down to rest in the tan t’ien, the major center of gravity. Arms and hands stay relaxed, yet energized.
Try it, and let us know how you feel!
