Connecticut. . . the coast line. . . green trees. . . red, yellow and purple flowers. That’s where I was last week and what I looked forward to seeing. The foliage was green and lush, nourished with lots of rain in recent weeks. The red and yellow flowers were in full bloom, welcoming summer warmth. No walks by the water though. It rained and rained, but that didn’t dampen the spirit for all of us learning, practicing and feeling wonderful energy generated through Tai Chi.
Approximately 150 of us participated in week-long intensive Tai Chi study as part of a Dr. Paul Lam workshop. We each chose one form, either Chen, Yang or Sun style to study. I chose the Yang Style 24 form, the most practiced form in the world. It’s hard to describe the “ahh” feeling I felt being with 14 people moving in sync with grace, mindfulness and smooth, flowing energy. Time stopped. Nothing mattered except putting the right foot forward and shifting weight to it. Back and forth. . . gathering and delivering energy. . . moving so slowly like turtles, with focus and purpose but in no hurry to get anywhere other than where we were right then. Being in the moment.
I am so grateful to be able to walk and to have Tai Chi as a tool to enjoy good health and balance, both in my mind and body.
A special thank you to Robin, my Master Trainer from northern California, who taught my class and to Ellen, a Master Trainer from Switzerland, who was a class member but also helped lead and facilitate our practice.
